CLIENT

Borderline asso is a Paris-based, non-profit association that promotes multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural events.

CLIENT BRIEF

Type-only or abstract (non-illustrative) logo, bold and edgy. It has to draw its inspiration in the tradition of protest art. It's target audience is 16-35 year-olds who hold an interest in alternative scenes social issues.

BRANDING SOLUTION

The logo with abstract shapes that resemble a map was retained amongst the sketches. It fit the vision of the association. The negative spaces (the lines) seem to represent a journey instead of a border. The hand-drawn type is inspired by the font Block, popular in May '68 posters. The logo also works well in one color: it's readable and distinctive.

BORDERLINE FEST

Borderline Asso created its first event in 2017. This outdoors 2-day benefit event consisted of music, an art show and games from around the world. The event needed:

• A call for participation for a benefit art exhibit;

• Social media promotion;

• Poster and flyers;

• Signage;

• Rule sheets for the games.

SOCIAL MEDIA & printed PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL

The promotional campaign began with a call for participation for visual artists: they had to create or submit an art work for the festival’s art show. Other social media images for the teaser campaign and the announcement of the participating artists that were selected for the exhibition… In the spirit of the Borderline Asso brand was a hand-made and hand-written feel throughout the campaign. The flyer and the poster’s illustration is a collage of images and illustrations. The elements followed the theme of the recent refugee crisis.

GAME RULES

The team behind Borderline Asso created games from around the world with repurposed wood. Game sheets explained the complex rules as simply as possible with the help of graphs. All the information had to fit on a single page.

SIGNAGE

The event took place outdoors. Because of the immensity of the natural setting, the signage has to be quite large. The budget was just enough for two panels – the most necessary ones: information about the art exhibit and the game area. In a DIY style, we hung posters of the art exhibition and arrows on a thread with clothespins to lead the way towards the exhibit, and created hand-written signs to lead the way to the game area.
